Scenario Planning: SLSU revisits, updates its strategic plan
Southern Leyte State University conducted a webinar foresight-scenario planning session to identify robust and realistic strategies to revisit and update the university’s strategic plan.
This initiative is to in line the strategic plan of the university that is responsive to the “new normal” characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA).
In 2016, SLSU and its stakeholders have been guided with a Seven-Year Development Plan (SYDP). The strategic map of said the plan signified a turning point in the history of the university.
The SYDP made it possible for SLSU to be placed in the Philippine Higher Education map as it earned several recognitions and awards from its local and international partner institution. It likewise has started to gain the trust and confidence from its international partners.
The activity is designed to conduct survey of stakeholders in relation to the existing SYDP, produce data analytics of the survey conducted, and conduct scenario planning that is focused on its strategic challenge and framing question, driving forces, building blocks, scenarios and scenario stories, implication and options, and indicators and signposts.
Likewise, it aims to revisit the strategic map of the university’s vision, mission, core values, goals, objectives, and accomplishments and gaps to formulate strategic objectives, and measures and targets.
University President, Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes, shares that the conduct of the scenario planning ‘generates multiple well-crafted contradictory narratives about the future to anticipate possible outcomes of environmental forces with the potential to impact the university.’
“While it cannot predict the future, it however scans and analyzes the environment to identify potential outcomes and how they might impact SLSU especially the long-term effect of COVID-19,” Dr. Aldwin M. Teves, the Director of Planning and Development Office, said while emphasizing the importance of conducting the scenario planning activity.
Guided with the university’s vision of becoming a ‘high quality corporate university of science, technology and innovations, the institution achieved a lot of great accomplishments that benefitted the faculty, students, administrative staff, and other stakeholders.
