SLSU is 122nd top PH university: EduRank
Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) landed on top 122 in the recent assessment of the top universities ranking of EduRank, a web source that analyzes and ranks universities and other educational sectors in the world based on their social media performance.
A total of 230 universities in the Philippines were being assessed and ranked based on their social media engagements and activities.
Meanwhile, SLSU ranks 5th among the 10 of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) members in Eastern Visayas region.
According to EduRank, the ranking was based on an independent algorithm that looks into the performance metrics of the universities’ websites and social media profiles including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube among others. It also includes their social engagements and traffic, time spent on the website, and the volume of searches of and about the institution. The scores are then calculated based on its brand rank and its performance rank.
Brand rank is assessed based on the audience size of the social media accounts, while the performance rank considers the performance metrics based on monthly online activity in terms of audience growth, posting activity, and overall engagements.
The Director of Marketing and Communication, Dr. Eda J. Opina, shared the importance of measuring an institution’s social media efforts to assess their own performance online.
“While digital and social media have become an integrated part of the broader public relations (PR) picture, it is very important to know our contributions to open conversations and interactions between our university and stakeholders,” Dr. Opina said, emphasizing that the only window for SLSU to communicate, especially in this time of the pandemic, is through social media engagements.
Meanwhile, University President, Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes, expressed her hope to improve SLSU’s web ranking and that “we should be thinking harder than ever to improve our national and international standing.
“SLSU must cope with the scrutiny of the performance of all universities in the country and the world where levels of global competition are growing all the time,” Yepes added.
As of writing, SLSU has already reached 41,578 followers and 39,335 likes on Facebook, and over 3,130 subscribers on YouTube.
