SLSU Delegation Contributes to the Success of the 1st International Conference on Education and Training for Sustainability (CETS) 2025

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) contributed to the success of the 1st International Conference on Education and Training for Sustainability (CETS) 2025, held on March 14, 2025, at Tra Vinh University, Vietnam. The conference, co-organized by Tra Vinh University (DHTV) and SLSU, brought together educators, researchers, and scholars from across the globe, including delegates from the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, China, and other ASEAN countries, all united in their commitment to sustainable education and global development.
The conference commenced with an inspiring opening speech by Prof. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh of Tra Vinh University, Vietnam. His address, titled "Tra Vinh University in the Pursuit of Education and Training for Sustainable Development," elaborated on the university's dedication to sustainable education and its critical role in fostering international collaboration to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Other notable speakers, including Bui Thi Luyen, Phan Thi My Ly, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Van, To Thi Ngoc Huyen, Ta Thanh Hai, Kim Van, and Huynh Sang, also presented valuable insights into sustainable education initiatives.
The plenary session featured a series of thought-provoking keynote speeches addressing the future of education. Prof. Dr. Mark B. Galdo of SLSU delivered the first keynote speech, "Contextualized Pedagogical Models for Filipino Higher Education," stressing the importance of incorporating local culture and context into curriculum development to create more meaningful learning experiences.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chau Thi Hoang Hoa of Tra Vinh University followed with her presentation, "Smart Education for Sustainable Development: COIL as the Bridge Between Globalization and Local Needs," which highlighted the role of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) in bridging global education with local needs. Later, Dr. Y Lima of Chenla University, Cambodia, discussed "Student Enrollment Trends and Strategic Adjustments at Chenla University," shedding light on evolving enrollment patterns in higher education. Dr. Phillip M. Adams of Tra Vinh University closed the plenary session with his talk on "Unintended Consequences of Generative Large Language Model (LLM) Programs, Especially in Education," exploring the challenges posed by artificial intelligence in the educational landscape.
SLSU’s delegation, comprising esteemed faculty members and researchers, actively engaged in the conference through research presentations and moderation roles. Dr. Marie Khul C. Langub, Vice President for Student Affairs and Services at SLSU, presented her research "Instructional Impact of Professional Development on Technology Integration Using the PIC-RAT Framework," which explored the role of professional development in enhancing technology integration in education. Dr. Clemente H. Cobilla, Campus Director of SLSU Tomas Oppus, moderated the "Educational Management & International Cooperation in Education" session, while Dr. Marvin S. Daguplo, a Mathematics Education Professor at SLSU, co-chaired and moderated the session on "Higher Education, Language, Skills, and Vocational Education." He also presented his study on "Strengthening and Validating the Evaluation Criteria for Master Teachers in the Philippines." Additionally, Dr. Violeta B. Felisilda, an English Education Professor, co-chaired the "Early Childhood Education, Special Education, and General Education" session and presented her research on "Social Mobilization for Education of the Secondary Level in Tra Vinh City."
Several other SLSU faculty members contributed to the success of the conference with their thought-provoking research. Dr. Stella Marie D. Consul presented "Evaluation of the Variations of Literacy Diet for Struggling Readers," while Dr. Joey A. Caraquil discussed "Implementation of Senior High School STEM Education in Southern Leyte: Alignment with the ASEAN STEM Framework." Dr. Pritzel Lee G. Capili's research, "LEAVE or STAY: A Study on SAS Delivery as an Academic Support to Students," and Mr. Jayson E. Orais' presentation on "Assessment of Students' Writing Proficiency: A Pathway to Writing Performance" further added to the academic exchange.
Furthermore, the SLSU-TO RIES, initiated by Dr. Galdo and Mr. Orais, also showcased the various extension programs and activities conducted by the SLSU-Tomas Oppus campus by displaying and distributing pamphlets and flyers to the guests during the conference.
SLSU's participation in the CETS 2025 conference highlighted the university’s commitment to advancing education aligned with sustainable development goals. As the conference concluded, it was clear that the CETS 2025 provided an essential platform for global dialogue on education, sustainability, and development. SLSU remains dedicated to sustaining and expanding its international engagements, playing an integral role in global academic discussions and policy developments in education and sustainability.
