Southern Leyte State U launches Parol-Making Contest
In the spirit of the holiday season and in support of the university’s commitment to sustainability, SLSU through the Chief Administrative Officer’s Office launched the Parol-Making (Lantern) Contest 2024 for the university offices. This contest aims to inspire creativity, teamwork, and eco-consciousness by encouragingpersonnel to create unique Christmas lanterns/decorations using repurposed material. This initiative intends to bring festive cheer to the university’s campus offices while reinforcing the commitment to sustainable practices.
Participants are encouraged to explore creative ideas on how to repurpose recyclable materials to create a unique, festive lantern. One of the guidelines in the creation of the parols is that it should embody the traditional Christmas spirit together with modern elements.
The contest sarted on November 15, making the first day of the Parol Creation. The Parols are being displayed the participating office’s entrance for the whole month of December, with the winners being announced on December 18 which is also Main Campus’ year-end party celebration.
Among the 19 entries, three stood out—the lantern for the Faculty of Arts and Science was declared 3rd, followed by the Faculty of Engineering. The General Services Office was able to claim the 1st spot with their creatively crafted design.
