SLSU-Hinunangan Partners with PCA for "Plant, Plant, Plant" Initiative
SLSU-Hinunangan, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture's Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), spearheaded a "Plant, Plant, Plant Activity" on August 8, 2024. The event, which focused on the vital role of coconut cultivation in the region, brought together PCA personnel, SLSU-Hinunangan Coconut Scholars, and other participants for a day of environmental action and community building.
Leading the PCA delegation was Provincial Coconut Development Manager (PCDM) Ms. Carmelita P. Maturan, along with Mr. Ben Wen Raey L. Taneo, Coconut Development Officer (PCA-CDO, Silago). The event accentuated the shared commitment between the PCA and SLSU-Hinunangan to bolster coconut production and promote sustainable agricultural practices in the community.
During the program, SLSU-Hinunangan Campus Director Mr. Wade C. Lim highlighted the significance of coconuts in the local economy and acknowledged the invaluable support provided by the PCA through its scholarship program. "The coconut industry is the backbone of our community's agricultural livelihood," Lim stated. "Through initiatives like this and the continued scholarship assistance from the PCA, we are empowering our students and ensuring the sustainability of our natural resources for future generations."
The highlight of the day was the actual planting of coconut tree seedlings at the designated area within the SLSU-Hinunangan campus. Guided by the expertise of PCA staff, participants enthusiastically took part in the activity, symbolizing their commitment to environmental stewardship and the future of coconut farming in the region.
This collaboration between SLSU-Hinunangan and the PCA marks a significant step toward enhancing agricultural education and cultivating a deeper connection between students and their natural environment.
