SLSU participates to 3rd International (6th National) Conference on Poverty and Sustainable Development
Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) recently took part in the 3rd International (6th National) Conference on Poverty and Sustainable Development, held at Samar State University in Borongan City, Eastern Samar from September 21 to 23, 2022.
The year 2022 marked the third international and sixth national conference on poverty alleviation and sustainable development, organized by Samar State University (SSU) in collaboration with the University of Eastern Philippines. This year, SSU continued to work in tandem with its strong partners, State Universities and Colleges (SUC), and Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in the Eastern Visayas region, Philippines. The conference's theme was "Convergence of Borderless Opportunities to End Poverty." To adapt to the new normal, the conference was conducted online via Zoom Web Conferencing, Facebook Live, and YouTube Live.
SLSU contributed to the conference's goals by presenting notable projects undertaken by the university over the past year. Here are the papers and their respective presenters:
- "Suppressing COVID-19 and Enhancing Typhoon Odette Resilience: Experiences of Women Trained in Liquid Hand Soap Production" – Presented by Juanita Costillas and Adelfa Diola.
- "Identifying Socio-economic Features and Profiling Fish-farming Operations of Tilapia Farmers in Brgy. Magatas, Sogod, Southern Leyte" – Presented by Jimmy Salamida, along with co-authors Zabala B, Tumadlas A, Tomol R, Pantja D, Caday B, Alfante JM, Amor MFN, Morales K, and Pascual GL.
The International Conference on Poverty and Sustainable Development (iPOVCON) has been an annual event since 2016, providing an effective platform for showcasing research studies on poverty alleviation and sustainable development. Over the years, it has served as a venue to share and recognize best practices from local and national agencies that have successfully implemented poverty reduction initiatives.
