RIO spearheads Technical Writing Workshop for S&T Departments
To generate more quality research publications in the field of science and technology, Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), through Data Analytics Unit (DAU) headed by Rujube Hinoguin of the Research and Innovation Office (RIO), spearheaded the online seminar-workshop on Introduction to Technical Paper Writing on November 11-12, 2020 and December 10-11, 2020.
To provide the best trainer possible, the DAU tapped Lanndon Ocampo, a highly published engineer with numerous publications in Scopus-indexed journals. He also serves as an editorial board member in over a dozen Scopus-indexed journals in the disciplines of mechanical engineering and manufacturing.
The seminar-workshop covered the development of articles for scientific journal publications, academic and information search strategies, and the crafting of research proposals for potential funding by government agencies and non-government organizations.
The training provided a valuable detailed critique of the development of all articles and potentially fundable proposals that were present. It was held as part of SLSU’s efforts to boost the capabilities of its science and technology departments. The university is looking ahead to the publication of the presented articles in quality journals and the acceptance of its research proposals by funding agencies.
The seminar-workshop was attended by faculty members from various colleges and campuses: College of Engineering (6 participants), College of Technology (5 participants), College of Computer Science and Information Technology (3 participants), Institute of Arts and Sciences (7 participants), Industrial Education (4 participants), College of Criminal Justice (3 participants), Maasin City campus (4 participants), Bontoc campus (3 participants), Tomas Oppus campus (3 participants), and San Juan campus (5 participants). Participation in the training was later expanded to include faculty members from the social sciences in its second phase.
