SLSU Strengthens Advocacy with “One SLSU, One Promise: A Pledge to End Violence Against Women” Virtual Program
In a show of solidarity and collective commitment, Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) brought together students, faculty, and staff for the virtual program “One SLSU, One Promise: A Pledge to End Violence Against Women” held on December 2, 2025, via Zoom. The event became a meaningful space for reflection, learning, and reaffirmation of SLSU’s pledge to protect and empower women across all campuses. Unlike traditional webinars, the program took a deeply human-centered approach, allowing participants not only to learn but also to connect emotionally with the advocacy.
Dr. Marie Khul C. Langub, Vice President for Student Auxiliary Services, set the tone in her welcome message by emphasizing that ending violence against women starts with awareness—and grows stronger through collective responsibility. She reminded the audience that every member of the university plays a role in building safe spaces.
The program’s discussions focused on mechanisms and support systems that safeguard both students and employees. Ms. Beverly Ann Isaga, Head of Student Development Services, delivered an eye-opening talk on the role of SLSU CODI, empowering participants with knowledge on how to report, respond to, and prevent harassment within the campus environment.
Adding depth to the conversation, Mr. Gordon B. Opina, Director of UHRMDO, shed light on issues often overlooked—employee grievances and workplace fairness. His session underscored that VAW advocacy is not limited to students; it extends to ensuring dignified and equitable treatment for all SLSU personnel.
A moment of celebration energized the event as Shyn Luege Villaflores, Head of the GAD Office, announced the winners of the End VAWC Advocacy Poster Making Contest. The winning artworks, filled with symbolism and courage, reflected the students' creativity and their genuine desire to advocate for women’s rights.
One of the most impactful parts of the program was the Pledge of Commitment, led by SLSU Main Campus' SSC President, Felmer Anocop, where participants voiced their promise to act, speak up, and stand against violence. The virtual room echoed with unity as each attendee affirmed their role in the cause.
By the end of the two-hour gathering, the message was clear: ending violence against women is a shared mission, and SLSU stands firm, united, and committed. The event became not only a program but a powerful reminder that real change begins when communities move together with purpose and compassion.
