Exploring Innovation: SLSU Draws Global Best Practices from Melbourne to Improve Services

On September 5, Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) officials held an exploratory meeting and benchmarking session with Mr. Rofil Sheldon Magto, an expert in sustainability and corporate communications, to gain insights from his experience at the University of Melbourne and his professional leadership at Globe Group. The discussion focused on innovations in graduation services, including the use of digital platforms, streamlined processes, and improved guest experiences, as well as the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to support institutional development and environmental initiatives. Opportunities to strengthen collaboration with the University of Melbourne were also explored.
Joining Dr. Jude A. Duarte, University President, in the meeting were Dr. Ingrid M. Uy (External Linkages and International Affairs), Engr. Cris Vincent Ranque (Business and Resource Generation Office), Mr. Francis Rey Padao (University Information Systems and Analytics), and Ms. Doryn Fatima Ichon and Ms. Liezel Garzota (Quality Assurance Office).
Mr. Magto is an Australia Awards scholar at the University of Melbourne, where he recently completed his Master of Ecosystem Management and Conservation, complementing his Master of Environmental Management from Ateneo de Manila University. Currently serving as Assistant Director for Sustainability and Corporate Communications at Globe Group, he has earned distinction for his work in mangrove and environmental conservation and for his leadership in sustainability and strategic communication. His presence at SLSU provided valuable insights drawn from both his international academic experience and professional expertise, helping the university explore practical, globally informed improvements in its services and operations.
