SLSU Takes Part in Patent Mining Training and Mentorship Program under DOST-PCAARRD RAISE Phase 2

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) actively joined the Patent Mining Training Workshop and Mentorship Program – Batch 1A, conducted last September 2–5, 2025, at Hotel Costa Brava, Tacloban City, Leyte.
The capacity-building workshop was organized by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), in collaboration with the Association of PAQE Professionals, Inc. (APP) and the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), with Samar State University (SSU) serving as host institution.
Ms. Rio Katrina C. Avila, ITSO Head and Project Support Staff Level II, and Mr. Ramel Claros, Head for Knowledge and Technology Management and Transfer Innovation (KMTI), represented the university. The participation of SLSU underscores the university’s commitment to enhancing its capabilities in intellectual property management, technology transfer, and research utilization. By engaging in the training, the delegates acquired practical knowledge on patent mining, which is an essential process for spotting innovation opportunities, preventing redundancy in research, and developing IP strategies responsive to both institutional and regional priorities.
This initiative forms part of the larger effort to fortify the Regional IPTBM Network under the RAISE Program, equipping higher education institutions in Eastern Visayas with the tools to leverage intellectual property as a catalyst for innovation and sustainable development.
