Learning and Leadership: SLSU Bontoc Librarian’s Reflections at the 50th ALBASA Seminar Workshop
The 50th ALBASA (Academic Libraries Book Acquisition Systems Associations, Inc.) Seminar Workshop, held from July 16 to 19, 2024, at the Vivace Events Center in Cebu City, Philippines, with a theme, “From Tradition to Transformation: Libraries Shaping the Future Through Innovation Resilience”, brought together library professionals to explore how libraries can adapt and innovate in the digital age.
In this 4-day transformative event, SLSU Bontoc College Librarian Ms. Lowella G. Prado, gained insights into the latest updates and advancements in publications, digital resources, and technologies in library science.
The seminar featured a series of talks centered on leadership, the role of libraries, and innovative approaches for modern libraries. The first session was about, “Navigating the Digital Horizon: Enhancing Library Services in a Tech-Driven Era,” which was shared by Engr. Gerardo S. Doroja, Director for Strategy and Management Office, Xavier University Cagayan.
Dr. Ana Lou Panganiban from the Technological University of the Philippines shared strategies for maintaining a positive work environment and developing resilience, with interactive activities and discussions. Dr. Panganiban highlighted, “Grit to Great: Sustaining Workplace Positivity Amidst Uncertainty.”
The next series of session featured, “Preserving the Past, Embracing the Future: The Evolving Role of Libraries,” led by Fr. Alfonso A. Araceli from the University of San Carlos. He discussed balancing the preservation of historical documents with adapting to modern needs and technologies. It was then followed by Ms. Rainera C. Boholst from Cebu Institute of Technology-University who shared about, “Innovative Approaches and Strategies for Modern Libraries,” which mentions enhancing user experience through digital transformation, expanding accessibility and inclusivity, and fostering community engagement.
“The 4-day seminar-workshop equipped me with various information relative to my librarianship profession. I hope to bring this newly acquired knowledge and innovative ideas back to SLSU Bontoc as we are a growing community of learners and educators,” Ms. Prado said.
The event ended with benchmarking activities in the National Museum of the Philippines-Cebu, Casa Gorordo and in other model libraries and museums in Cebu.
