SLSU-Bontoc opens door to highschool students for experiential learning opportunity
SLSU-Bontoc, to show its commitment to equal learning opportunities, opened its doors to Grade 8 students from Bontoc National High school for an experiential learning on layer poultry farming. Mr. Webel G. Dublado, DVM and a Faculty of the Department of Agricultural Sciences, welcomed a total of 27 student learners on December 13, 2023 and treated these learners to a short lecture on layer poultry management, including strategies on feeding and watering. Students had an opportunity to ask questions and received clarifications, thanks to Mr Dublado’s long experience on layer poultry farming.
An excursion to SLSU-Bontoc Layer Poultry Backyard Farm completed the visit. Here, student learners got an actual observation on farm infrastructure and witnessed actual feeding and watering routines. Learners were also briefed on the do’s and don’ts on egg collection.
SLSU-Bontoc and its long-standing experience on layer poultry farming is also recognized by other agencies. Just this year, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) partnered with SLSU-Bontoc in implementing its project “Regeneration of Sustainable Innovations and Livelihood Efficient Agri-Technologies or RESILIENT”.
The “RESILIENT”, a multi-phased project aimed at better egg production, assigned SLSU-Bontoc as provider of technical know-how to improve practices among egg producing associations in Bontoc, Southern Leyte.
