Southern Leyte State U holds SPARTA Project orientation to encourage potential scholars to enroll
The Southern Leyte State University has successfully conducted an online orientation on Project Smarter Philippines through Data Analytics R&D, Training, and Adoption (SPARTA) on June 14, 2022 graced by the representatives from the Development Academy Philippines (DAP) and interested participants from the University and out.
Project SPARTA was launched in order to put in place the necessary online education, research and development mechanisms and infrastructure to enable the industry of data science and analytics and to advance smart governance practice, its website says.
Through BOR Resolution No. 076, s.2021, the partnership was made possible through signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between DAP and Southern Leyte State U on September 3, 2021, where the latter has been given 300 scholars to nominate and monitor their participation and completion of the said scholarship program.
The orientation’s main goal is to gather potential scholars to be enrolled in the different courses Project SPARTA offers. They will be given scholarship in the field of Data Engineering, Data Science, Functional Analytics and Analytics Manager.
Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, Vice President for Research, Innovation and Extension Services (VPRIES) and the University's Chairperson for Project SPARTA stressed the importance of joining the list of scholars.
"Let’s embrace this modernized era of Science for the global business community and governments will require abilities to interpret current economic, business, and industrial conditions. Hence, data science abilities are very much needed today," she said.
University President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes then shared her inspirational message highlighting the benefit of the SPARTA scholarship, saying that the "will provide necessary assistance to the interested scholars that will tackle knowledge enhancement, career development, employment opportunities, and government projects utilizing data science and analytics."
DAP Vice President Dr. Alan Cajes was also in attendance to encourage participants to take advantage of this opportunity and become one of the SPARTA scholars.
SPARTA is made possible by the partnership among the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), (DAP), Analytics Association of the Philippines (AAP), and Coursebank. It is supervised by the DOST-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) where they train and graduate 30,000 learners in Data science and Analytics through online learning, and foster a community of Data Science and Analytics practitioners through partnerships and engagement activities such as events, hackathons, and open data challenges.
