Southern Leyte State U conducts external assessment of data for QS Star Rating System
An external assessment of data of Southern Leyte State University for Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Stars Rating System was held in the morning of April 28, 2022 to provide recommendations for improvement and promote success in the University’s quest to be subjected to such rating system.
Dr. Adrian P. Ybañez, Vice President for Research and Development of Cebu Technological University (CTU), graced the activity as the resource speaker. CTU is a QS three-star rated university, one of the very few SUCs that garnered this global standard to date.
Dr. Ybañez shared CTU’s journey towards being QS Stars rated university and gave Southern Leyte State U tips on how to go about the processes. He also shared insights on which areas and indicators should be improved on with the data being presented.
QS Stars Rating System is an internationally-recognized mark of quality that uses a comprehensive and in-depth framework to rate and compare university performance across a broad range of key criteria. It’s designed to provide valuable insights into areas of strength and weakness, driving best-in-class standards in higher education.
According to their website, QS Stars awards universities with a rating of between one and five stars, depending on their performance in the given criteria. In the QS Star rating system, universities are evaluated according to Core Criteria (Teaching, Employability, Internationalization, and Research/Academic Development), Learning Environment (Facilities/Online), Specialist Criteria (Subject Ranking/Program Strength), and Advanced Criteria (choosing two from Arts & Culture, Innovation, Social Responsibility, and Inclusiveness.)
For Southern Leyte State U, the University embarks to continually put a premium on delivering quality education through QS Stars rating and accreditation system to foster, build and sustain world-class reputation as an academic institution.
In her message, University President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes expressed her delight that the University has chosen to work on such rating system.
“If this undertaking will come to fruition one day, this will validate our approach for our offerings and also strengthen our belief that the Southern Leyte State U, the lone SUC in the province, is progressively moving in the right direction to add value to our student’s academic and professional development,” Dr. Yepes said.
In April last year, Dr. Anthony Penaso himself, the University President of Caraga State University (CSU), visited Southern Leyte State University to provide orientation regarding QS Star Rating. Similar to CTU, CSU was granted three QS Stars.
The successful ratings will demonstrate our emphasis on equity and access for all students, our international focus, and the impact of our innovation on wider society and culture. Dr. Yepes encouraged all the concerned personnel to work hand in hand towards becoming global.
