Southern Leyte State U welcomes students back to campus for the limited f2f classes
After two long years since the suspension of the face-to-face classes, the whole Southern Leyte State University system welcomes the students back to the campus on April 4, 2022, Monday, for the physical classes.
For the final term of the second semester of the academic year (A.Y.) 2021-2022, Southern Leyte State University is offering physical classes for the second year, third year, fourth year, and graduating students of Industrial Technology, Food Technology, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Hotel Management, and Tourism Management intended for their laboratory classes.
While the conduct of the physical classes was delayed due to Typhoon Odette in December, the University has long been preparing for the requirements to open its gates once again for the students.
It can be recalled that the initial plan of the University was to conduct limited face-to-face classes on the start of the second semester of A.Y. 2021-2022. Several universities in the country and in the region have been running classes since late 2021 but it was limited only to allied medical courses.
The resumption of the face-to-face classes runs in parallel with how the University moved when the pandemic started. Southern Leyte State U has transitioned well to the flexible learning management system.
Although face-to-face classes have now commenced, the flexible learning management system is still applied as non-laboratory classes are still to be conducted online or through modules.
Southern Leyte State U has also been implementing safety protocols in adherence to the requirements of the Department of Health (DOH) and Commission of Higher Education (CHED) in preparation for the resumption of physical classes. A Safety Seal Certification was already given to the University by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) that affirms the University's compliance with the minimum public health standards.
Preparations for the Limited F2F classes
The preparations include putting new equipment in the laboratory classrooms to enable teachers to conduct classes in the physical and virtual classrooms at the same time and arranging common spaces and other facilities like the canteen, study area, and comfort room to observe social and physical distancing.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Anabelle M. Hufalar welcoming the students back to Southern Leyte State University while reminding them to observe health and safety protocols
During the short welcome program for students on April 4 along with the participation of the faculty and staff in the nationwide flag raising and fellowship ceremony by CHED, the Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Anabelle Hufalar reminded the students to strictly observe the safety protocols to help the University in its vision to soon conduct classes at full capacity and open the gates for all students of all programs.
Only fully vaccinated faculty members, staff, and students are allowed to enter the university premises for the face-to-face classes to ensure the safety of everyone. Likewise, only students with classes or other guests with confirmed appointments, given that they are fully vaccinated, are allowed to enter the campus.
Southern Leyte State U aims to ensure consistency in the implementation of the health and safety protocols to prepare for the opening of classes in full capacity when the government allows.
