SLSU-Tomas Oppus Lab High tops Science and Technology writing tilt

Rainne Benedict V. Geraldo, a Grade 11-STEM student from Southern Leyte State University-Tomas Oppus Laboratory High School, emerged as this year's Science and Technology Writing champion during the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) held from May 31 to June 2, 2023, in Dolores, Eastern Samar.

Geraldo's winning piece delved into the diverse aspects of typhoon risks in the country, encompassing factors such as the frequency and intensity of typhoons, their impact on infrastructure and communities, preparedness and response measures, climate change implications, and other relevant considerations pertaining to typhoon risks in the Philippines.

To aid their writing, participants were provided with a map delineating typhoon-prone area in the Philippines, which served as the foundation and reference for their articles.

Acknowledging the formidable competition from participants representing esteemed public, private, and SUC laboratory high schools in Region 8, Geraldo's exceptional writing skills and profound understanding of the topic set him apart as the frontrunner, earning him the prestigious award.

"I am grateful for this recognition and humbled by the talent showcased by my fellow participants. It was a challenging competition," Geraldo remarked.

Expressing his delight, Geraldo's coach and school principal, Mr. Joseph M. Añavesa, commended Geraldo's victory as a testament to his unwavering dedication, diligent work ethic, and remarkable skill.

"We have high hopes that he will excel in the national arena and bring further glory to our institution," Mr. Añavesa expressed optimistically.

Geraldo is now gearing up to represent the region at the upcoming National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) scheduled to be held in Cagayan de Oro City from July 17 to 21, 2023.
