VMCJPI Successfully Conducts Training-Seminar on Bibliometric Analysis for Research and Publication Development
The Visayas–Mindanao Consortium for Journal Publication, Inc. (VMCJPI) successfully conducted the Training-Seminar on Bibliometric Analysis Using VOSviewer and Biblioshiny for Research Mapping and Publication Development on April 8, 2026, via the Zoom platform.
The whole-day activity, held from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, brought together faculty members, researchers, and participants from various member institutions of the consortium. The seminar aimed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and skills in utilizing bibliometric tools for research mapping and enhancing publication outputs.
The program formally commenced with the arrival of participants, followed by the Philippine National Anthem and invocation, and the introduction of participants from member institutions.

The activity was officially opened through the welcome remarks of Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, TWG Chair of VMCJPI and Vice-President for Research, Extension, and Innovation Services (RIES) of Southern Leyte State University (SLSU). This was followed by an inspirational message delivered by Dr. Victor C. Cañezo Jr., VMCJPI Board Member and University President of Biliran Province State University (BIPSU), who emphasized the importance of research productivity and collaboration.

The introduction of the resource speaker was given by Dr. Czarina Ancella G. Gabi, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Studies and Information Technology of SLSU.

The highlight of the activity was the training-seminar proper facilitated by Ms. Jannie Fleur V. Oraño, Head of the GIS Tech Center of SLSU. She provided comprehensive discussions and demonstrations on the use of VOSviewer and Biblioshiny, guiding participants in conducting bibliometric analysis for research mapping and publication development.

In the afternoon session, participants actively engaged in an open forum and question-and-answer segment, followed by a hands-on application/workshop where they applied the concepts and tools learned. Selected participants were also able to present their outputs, showcasing their initial bibliometric analyses and research insights.
The activity concluded with the closing remarks of Dr. Aris A. Lapada, TWG Member of VMCJPI and Vice President for Research, Innovation and Extension Services of Eastern Samar State University (ESSU), who expressed appreciation to the organizers, resource speaker, and participants for their active engagement and support.
Overall, the training-seminar was a meaningful and productive initiative that further strengthened the research capabilities of the participants and reaffirmed VMCJPI’s commitment to advancing quality research and publication among its member institutions.
