SLSU-Hinunangan Champions Love, Finance, and Well-Being in PreValentine’s Seminar

In line with its commitment to holistic student development and aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Office of Student and Auxiliary Services of Southern Leyte State University-Hinunangan spearheaded a seminar titled "True Love Waits" on the morning of February 12 at the Multipurpose Academic Building. The event, which was part of the campus’ early Valentine’s Day celebration, gathered first-year students to engage in insightful discussions on dental care, financial literacy, and responsible relationships.
Recognizing the need to nurture not only academic excellence but also personal and social well-being, the seminar aimed to equip students with essential life skills that contribute to their overall growth. Among the topics discussed were Dental Care by Dr. Harold Labaco, Financial Literacy by Ms. Leslie Anne Caberte (CPA), and the significance of responsible and meaningful relationships under the "True Love Waits" framework by Ms. Verlie Joy Beltranca (CPA).
Dr. Labaco emphasized the importance of proper oral hygiene and preventive dental care, highlighting its role in maintaining overall health and confidence. Meanwhile, Ms. Caberte discussed financial literacy, stressing the significance of budgeting, saving, and responsible financial decision-making—an essential skill for young individuals as they navigate their academic journey and beyond. Ms. Beltranca, on the other hand, tackled the concept of "True Love Waits," encouraging students to build healthy and respectful relationships founded on patience, self-respect, and emotional maturity.
This initiative directly aligns with SLSU’s mission of nurturing well-rounded individuals equipped with knowledge and values that prepare them for life’s challenges. By integrating discussions on health, finance, and emotional well-being, the seminar supports the university’s goal of producing graduates who are not only intellectually competent but also socially responsible and prepared for real-world decision-making.
Furthermore, the event contributes to the attainment of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) by promoting dental health awareness, SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing financial literacy education, and SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by fostering discussions on respectful relationships and personal empowerment.
In the afternoon, the campus student organization prepared a series of fun activities primarily held at the Academic Complex Building I. These activities provided students with opportunities to celebrate Valentine’s Day in an engaging and entertaining manner, reinforcing camaraderie and school spirit among the student body.
Through activities such as this, SLSU-Hinunangan continues to uphold its dedication to student welfare, reinforcing the university’s role as a hub of holistic learning and character formation. As the institution moves forward, it remains steadfast in its commitment to developing individuals who embody excellence, integrity, and social responsibility—true to the university’s core values and longterm vision for its students and the community.
