The activity celebrated the exceptional achievement of SLSU’s first-ever LEPT Topnotcher and the successful passers of the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT) 2025 from the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) and Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLED) programs.
The highlight of the event was the recognition of Ms. Riza Sibunga, a graduate of the Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English, who earned a prestigious Top 7 ranking in the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers. Her accomplishment stands as a testament to academic excellence, perseverance, and the strong teacher education foundation provided by SLSU San Juan Campus.
Alongside the Top 7 honoree, the University also recognized the LEPT passers from BSED majors in English and Science, BTLED majors in Industrial Arts and Home Economics, and Professional Education Unit Earners. Their success reflects years of dedication, rigorous preparation, and the unwavering support of faculty mentors, families, and the University.
The celebration formally opened with a motorcade joined by the LEPT Topnotcher, LEPT passers, BSED and BTLED students, faculty members, and campus officials. This was followed by a formal processional led by the faculty, the university officials, the LEPT passers, the Topnotcher, and the colors. A solemn invocation was delivered by Mr. Jomar A. Palarao, BSED student teacher, while the Philippine National Anthem was rendered by Ms. Crystal E. Sarvida, also a BSED student teacher.

Opening remarks were delivered by Dr. Vangilit G. Retome, former BSED Department Head, who emphasized the significance of honoring newly licensed professional teachers. An intermission number by the SLSU HipHop Circle added vibrancy to the program, followed by an inspirational message from Mr. Danilo S. Escobido, Campus Director, who commended the honorees for their resilience and encouraged them to serve with integrity and excellence in the teaching profession.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the ceremonial chèque presentation, led by Dr. Jude A. Duarte, University President, together with Mr. Danilo S. Escobido, Campus Director, and Dr. Constantino G. Medilo Jr., Vice President for Academic Affairs. In his message, Dr. Duarte inspired the honorees with these reminders: “The birds can fly because they think they can,” and “The ocean is wide—swim and never ever doubt your capabilities.” He further reminded the honorees to remain humble and grounded as they pursue excellence in their professional journey.

The distribution of certificates was facilitated by key university officials, including Dr. Jude A. Duarte, University President; Dr. Constantino G. A testimonial speech from Ms. Riza Sibunga, who shared the struggles and challenges she encountered during her review journey, deeply touched the audience. Her testimony served as a powerful reminder that love for family, perseverance, and faith can overcome even the most difficult trials, inspiring education students to pursue their dreams with confidence and determination.

The program concluded with the closing remarks of Dr. Gwendolyn C. Tatoy, Faculty Dean, who highlighted the noble role of teachers in shaping society. Quoting Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” she encouraged the new licensed teachers to use their profession as an instrument for positive change.
