SLSU conducts 3-day workshop to revise Graduate Program Manual and Student Handbook

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) held a three-day intensive workshop from April 21 to 23, 2025, to revise the university's Graduate Program Manual (GPMO) and Student Handbook to boost operational efficiency.
The Graduate Program Manual of Operations (GPMO) and the Graduate Studies Student Handbook serve as the bedrock for operational efficiency and student success. Thus, SLSU has ensured that these updates align not only with the best practices and emerging trends in graduate education but also provide our students and faculty with a comprehensive, transparent, and supportive framework.
To support this commitment, the first day of the workshop focused on reviewing the Graduate Program Manual. The participating academic experts began the morning with an overview of the existing GPMO draft, followed by a session identifying its key issues based on collected feedback. An open discussion allowed participants to reflect on shared challenges and best practices. The afternoon sessions were dedicated to revising key manual sections and finalizing consolidated inputs, culminating in a round of presentations and a Q&A wrap-up session.
The second day opened with a recap of Day 1 and a deeper dive into refining the manual's content. Facilitators guided participants through collaborative document editing, incorporating feedback from the previous sessions. By the end of the day, a finalized draft of the revised GPMO was presented for final review and endorsement.
Shifting focus to the Student Handbook, Day 3 began with a review of the handbook's current structure and content. Through collaborative breakout sessions, participants identified gaps and outdated policies. In the afternoon, efforts were concentrated on updating and revising sections based on feedback and proposed improvements. The workshop concluded with the final presentation of revisions and an evaluation session to assess outcomes and next steps.
These revisions will create a more transparent, supportive, and rigorous academic environment, enabling our graduate students to excel and contributing to the university's ongoing success and reputation. Following a validation process, the finalized documents are expected to be officially adopted. They will guide the university's graduate operations and student services in the coming academic year.
This initiative was spearheaded by Dr. Mark Donald S. Oja, Director for Instruction, in collaboration with Dr. Constantino G. Medilo, Jr., Vice President for Academic Affairs.
