SLSU Gets a New President: Prose Ivy Yepes Appointed as 3rd President of SLSU
Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes was introduced Friday, Dec. 19, 2014 as the new President of Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) in a simple turnover ceremony with SLSU OIC President Dr. Jane Labastida before, less than a hundred faculty and staff of SLSU at the main campus’ covered court.
The event was a three-in-one activity composed of a Send Off for Labastida who was retiring effective Mon. Dec 22, 2014, a Christmas party, and the Turnover at 3:30 p.m. that afternoon.
Yepes was voted into the SLSU presidency by the university’s Board of Regents on Dec. 17, 2014. She arrived for the Turnover on the 19th, just hours short of the ceremony.
In a short speech, Yepes said that over the previous months, she had faced many challenges. She also said that her new position “has still not sunk in” due to her current responsibilities as Vice President for Research, Development and Extension.
Yepes was previously Vice President for Research, Development and Extension from April 2013 to December 2014. Before becoming Vice President, she was campus administrator of SLSU-Tomas Oppus from 2006 to 2013 and Dean of Higher Education of Tomas Oppus from 2005 to 2006. She was also a faculty president of the Tomas Oppus campus.
Yepes has a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, major in Plant Protection from the then Visayas State College of Agriculture and now Visayas State University where she graduated cum laude, and a Master of Arts in Education and Doctor of Education degrees from Cebu Normal University. She was given the rank of professor by the CHED in the NBC 461 5th cycle evaluation for full-fledged professorship on October 2014.
Preparations are currently underway for President Yepe’s Investiture ceremony on March 5, 2014 at the SLSU main campus covered court starting 3 p.m.
