SLSU Bontoc faculty joins Asian-Pacific Aquaculture 2024 in Indonesia
Professor IV Gladys L. Pascual, a faculty member of SLSU Bontoc Marine Biology Program, joins a 4-day conference and exposition for Asian-Pacific Aquaculture 2024 held on July 2-5, 2024 at Surabaya, Indonesia.
This opportunity was made through the generous funding support by the Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR-UOS) through the project “Interventions for Sustainable Development of Aquafeeds (ISDA) in Southern Leyte, Philippines” in collaboration with the Laboratory of Aquaculture and Artemia Reference Center (ARC), Ghent University, Belgium.
Asian-Pacific Aquaculture 2024 has been certified under the U.S. Trade Fair Act of 1959 which is designed to foster cultural and economic exchange that showcases support for innovation and technology.
In this enriching 4-day technical session and workshop, Prof. Pascual benefited and learned from the plenary speakers, Prof. Dr. Rokhmin Dahuri, President of the Indonesian Aquaculture Society who shared the history and promising stories of the “Aquaculture of Indonesia”. It was followed then by Prof. J.K. Jena of DDG (Fisheries Science) Indian Aquaculture Research who shared his expertise on “Meeting the Aspirations of Blue Transformation: R&D as Key Diver”.
Not only that, Prof. Pascual was able to strategically network for connections that will help Project ISDA’s continuing research and extension efforts in Southern Leyte, and the Eastern Visayas in the future. The recent conference featured a diverse array of topics, with a standout discussion focusing on feed ingredients and nutrition, diseases and health management, and innovative aquaculture systems. These key areas have the potential to make significant contribution on the project’s objectives and the broader field of aquaculture in the region.
“Joining this conference provided me with great learning opportunities about current trends and advances in aquaculture which I can bring to my country, especially to my campus, with hopes of expanding our aquaculture initiatives that would benefit our locals” Prof. Pascual said.
