PRRD on RA 11079: ‘A long dream’

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said that RA 11079 is a long dream that the youth of Maasin City will have access to free quality tertiary education.

“I’m happy for the Maasin guys to have their own state university. It’s a long dream… Makatapos na talaga kayo sa pag-aral (You will really finish your studies),” Duterte said in his speech during the presentation of the three new Republic Acts (RA) in a ceremony at the Rizal Hall in Malacañan Palace on October 9, 2018.

Republic Act No. 11079 provides for the integration of the Maasin City College (MCC) into the Southern Leyte State University (SLSU).

PRRD noted that the integration of MCC to SLSU does not only address the educational demands of the people of Maasin, Southern Leyte but also forms part of the agenda of improving the quality of tertiary education across the nation.

“It is my sincere hope that by affording the youth of Maasin City access to quality university education, they will be further inspired to take part in nation-building through highly specialized research programs in various fields of endeavor,” Duterte said.

The two other RA presented during the ceremony are the Republic Act 11057 or the Personal Property Security Act that establishes a unified and modern legal framework that will allow the use of personal property in securing obligations and Republic Act 11058 which strengthens compliance with occupational safety and health standards by making it mandatory for establishments to ensure a safe and healthful workplace for workers.
