Dr. Ines G. Falcon of Southern Leyte State University - San Juan Campus received the Best Oral Presenter Award at the 3rd Nemesio Prudente International Research Conference, held on November 14–15, 2025 via Zoom teleconferencing. Her achievement highlights SLSU’s continued excellence in producing impactful research aligned with sustainable development goals.
Dr. Falcon presented her study titled “Mobile Marketing and Tourism’s Information Accessibility through an E-Tourism Platform for Municipalities,” a research initiative co-authored with Mr. Kenneth Jay L. Dugaria. The paper explores how mobile marketing strategies and digital tourism platforms can expand local information accessibility, enhance visitor engagement, and support sustainable tourism development across municipalities.
With the conference anchored on the theme “Beyond 2030: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” Dr. Falcon’s work contributes to ongoing conversations on leveraging digital innovation to promote inclusive economic growth and resilient local industries.
Her recognition at this international gathering underscores SLSU’s strong research culture and its commitment to fostering scholarly outputs that respond to emerging societal needs. The university continues to encourage its faculty to pursue studies that support evidence-based policymaking and sustainable community development.
The event aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SGD) 4 (Quality Education), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure)11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).





Faculty members from Southern Leyte State University-San Juan Campus earned top recognitions at the 2nd International Virtual Research Conference on Education for Sustainable Development (IVRCED 2025) on October 16-18, 2025, reaffirming the university’s commitment to excellence in research and education for sustainability.
Ms. Jackylou S. Sarsale, together with her co-authors Catherine Patual, Marilou Siega, and Catherine Garcia, secured First Place for Best Research Paper under Track 17: Student Development, Inclusivity, and Support Systems in Higher Education for their study titled “Motivation Towards Choosing University Courses in Agriculture and Fisheries: Views from Filipino Students.”
In the same track, Dr. Melvin Sarsale received Third Place for Best Research Presenter for his paper “Parental Involvement in Assessment: Why, How and Where to?” which explored how parental engagement in assessment contributes to student development and learning outcomes. Likewise, Dr. Catherine M. Garcia achieved Third Place for Best Research Presenter under Track 1: Enhancing Graduate Competence and Workplace Readiness for her study, “Dimensions of Program Relevance Towards Employment Success: Evidence from a Graduate Tracer Study Using Principal Component Analysis.”
These international recognitions underscore SLSU’s strong research culture and its active participation in advancing global educational discourses. The university continues to encourage its faculty to pursue researches that address real-world challenges and contribute to sustainable educational practices.

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), through its Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) Office and Innovation & Technology Support Office (ITSO) under the Office of the Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services (RIES), conducted a writeshop on September 11–12, 2025, to revise three key institutional documents: Intellectual Property (IP) Policy, Technology Business Incubator (TBI) Operations Manual, and Technology Transfer Protocol.
The writeshop focuses on SLSU’s drive to institutionalize policies that would advance innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology-driven solutions. By refining its IP, TBI, and TTPs, the University addresses the goals of SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, wherein SLSU builds stronger mechanisms to translate research into practical applications that can benefit communities, industries, and the broader economy.
It is also part of SLSU’s ongoing steps to strengthen the innovation, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship development in line with national policies and global best practices supporting SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
The group is set to reconvene at later dates for the finalization of the revised documents, marking another milestone in the University’s innovation agenda.
The event was graced by the presence and support of Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, Vice President for RIES; Dr. Melvin S. Sarsale, Project Leader of Project 4–SLSU IPTBM; Engr. Jonelle H. Tablada, Director of the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office; Engr. Khorina O. Aguilar, Director for Research and Innovation, and Ms. Rio Katrina C. Avila, Head, ITSO.
Also present were Dr. Mark B. Galdo, Head of RIES Tomas Oppus Campus; Ms. Janine C. Dimzon, Head of RIES Bontoc Campus; Dr. Mary Ann Jilly R. Ramirez, Project Staff Level 2; Mr. Jay K. Mahusay, Project Technical Assistant IV; along with selected patent drafters and faculty representatives.
The initiative also supports Sustainable Development Goals No. 4: Quality Education and No. 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
