SLSU Bontoc Student ranks top finalist in Fisheries Quiz Bee
In celebration of the 61st Fish Conservation Week, with the theme "Sama-sama Tungo sa Maunlad at Likas-Kayang Pangisdaan," the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Eastern Visayas, in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region 8, conducted the Fish Alam Mo Ba? Fisheries Quiz Bee held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 10 a.m. in the Level 1 Annex Activity Area of Robinsons Marasbaras, Tacloban City.
The event gathered active participation from various universities across Eastern Visayas, including Biliran Province State University (BIPSU) - Biliran Campus, Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) - Carigara Campus, Visayas State University (VSU) - Tolosa and Main Campus, Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) - Mercedes and Main Campus, as well as Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) - Bontoc Campus.
Marvelita O. Rin, a third-year BS Fisheries student of SLSU Bontoc, emerged as one of the finalists of the Fish Alam Mo Ba? Fisheries Quiz Bee. She showcased her knowledge and expertise in fisheries, advancing through the elimination rounds and making it to the final round, where she competed against six other contestants.
Ms. Rin was coached and guided by, Dean of the Faculty of Aquatic and Applied Life Sciences, Jimmy E. Salamida. She was able to be part of the final round of 7 contenders. “As one of the challengers who took the challenge to be part of the Fish Alam mo ba? Fisheries Quiz Bee, is overwhelming. This event brought me an incredible experience that stands as a stepping stone as a fisheries student,” reflecting on the experience, Ms. Rin shared.
Rin added, “The preparation was done in a brief time, and within that time I had to juggle my responsibilities as a student, training for upcoming intramurals, and this other training I'm about to participate. Those times were draining nevertheless with my perseverance, dedication, and prayer, and together with the guidance of my instructors, I made it to the final round.”
Ms. Rin’s achievement is a testament to the hard work and commitment of the students and faculty of SLSU-Bontoc.
