SLSU-Hinunangan Advances Biotechnology Ambitions with DOST Audit of Proposed Tissue Culture Lab
A team from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VIII, led by Assistant Regional Director Marilyn Radam, conducted an audit assessment and ocular inspection of the proposed tissue culture laboratory at Southern Leyte State University-Hinunangan (SLSU-Hinunangan) on September 3, 2024. They were joined by the DOST Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) Southern Leyte team, headed by Dr. Ramil Uy.
The DOST officials were warmly received by SLSU-Hinunangan Campus Director Mr. Wade C. Lim and the College of Fisheries and Environmental Sciences Dean, Dr. John Paul R. Gapasin. This crucial visit marks a vital step in the approval process of the one-million-peso budget for the proposed facility, which is aimed at bolstering the university’s capacity for research and development in the field of tissue culture and biotechnology.
The establishment of the tissue culture laboratory is expected to significantly enhance SLSU Hinunangan's role in advancing scientific research and innovation. With a primary focus on agricultural biotechnology, the facility is poised to contribute to regional and national efforts in improving crop production, conservation of plant genetic resources, and sustainable agriculture practices.
SLSU-Hinunangan’s leadership emphasized the importance of this development, aligning with the institution’s vision of becoming a leading research university in the region. The laboratory is seen as a cornerstone of the university’s goal to strengthen its science and technology capabilities and contribute to the country’s scientific community. The successful implementation of this project would not only benefit SLSU-Hinunangan’s research initiatives but also open new avenues for collaborations and innovations in the field of plant sciences.
