SLSU-Tomas Oppus Science Education Faculty Serve as Quality Assurers and Context Experts of Lesson Scripts of DepEd Science 5 Catch-Up Friday’s Program

Eight faculty members from the Science Education department of Southern Leyte State University-Tomas Oppus (SLSU-TO) served as Quality Assurers and Content Experts for the development of Lesson Scripts for the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Science 5 Catch-Up Fridays program. The activities, held from July 15 to 24, 2024, and again from July 26 to 30, 2024, at Maasin Country Lodge in Mambajao, Maasin City, were organized in support of DepEd’s Matatag Agenda. These were participated by sixteen elementary and secondary science teachers, seven illustrators and layout artists, and eight evaluators from SLSU-Tomas Oppus. The goal was to bolster teachers' capabilities in delivering high-quality science education.
Dr. Clemente H. Cobilla, Dr. Dana D. Lim, Dr. Lillian D. Balbon, Ms. Nadine C. Matondo, Ms. Doreen A. Rosello, Mr. Rex M. Lucino, Mr. Jose William A. Viros, and Ms. Marjorie S. Colis played roles as Quality Assurers and Content Experts. Their work involved evaluating Budget of Work (BOW) documents and Lesson Scripts to ensure alignment with the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC).
The developed Lesson Scripts are designed to integrate Reading Skills, Peace and Values Education, and Health Education, which aims to enhance the teaching of science to Grade 5 learners as part of the Catch-Up Friday’s program. This effort not only supports DepEd's educational goals but also contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education. These scripts will be utilized by DepEd nationwide, marking a significant step in improving science education across the country.
