Southern Leyte State U researchers receives 1M fund for Project Implementation
Southern Leyte State University has been awarded funding worth one million pesos (₱1,000,000.00) by the Department of Science and Technology's Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) for a project titled "Application of Geospatial and AI Technologies for Municipal Crime and Accident Management System."
This project falls under the Good Governance through Data Science and Decision Support System (GODDESS) Program, and is spearheaded by a team of researchers including Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, Ms. Jannie Fleur V. Oraño, Dr. Czarina Ancella G. Gabi, and Mr. Gerald L. Ceniza. The implementation of this project will be through the participation of Sogod LGU through Mayor Sheffered Lino S. Tan and Sogod PNP represented by PMAJ Alfred Reynald M Dauz, the acting Chief of Police of Sogod Southern Leyte.
The project aims to establish a centralized geospatial database management system aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) promoting peaceful societies, justice, and strong institutions, which the project supports by enhancing the ability of local authorities to respond effectively to crime and accident reports, thereby improving public safety and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) highlighting the importance of partnerships by fostering collaboration between SLSU, DOST-PCIEERD, and local government unit, utilizing advanced technologies that require multi-stakeholder cooperation.
The successful implementation of this innovative project promises to enhance public safety in Southern Leyte, potentially setting a benchmark for similar initiatives across the Philippines. By harnessing the power of geospatial and AI technologies, Southern Leyte State University is not only contributing to the advancement of good governance but also paving the way for smarter, safer communities in Sogod Southern Leyte.
