SLSU-Hinunangan's RIES Hosts Nationally Acclaimed Lecture Series on Academic Integrity and Agricultural Innovation
The Office of Research, Innovation, & Extension Services (RIES) at SLSU-Hinunangan has become a beacon of intellectual exchange, recently organizing two dynamic lecture series this year, 2024, that have captured the attention of participants nationwide. These events, held in January and February, have transcended geographical boundaries, drawing participants from Southern Leyte and various institutions/organizations across the country.
In its sixth installment, the lecture series delved into the pressing issues of "Predatory Journals and Conferences & Plagiarism." The event was conducted via Zoom Teleconferencing on January 31, 2024, and featured Dr. Ian A. Navarrete, Head of RIES SLSU-Hinunangan, as the distinguished speaker. Dr. Navarrete's insights shed light on the nuances of academic integrity in the digital age. He emphasized the critical need for discernment in sourcing information, stating, "Navigating the sea of scholarly content requires vigilance to distinguish credible sources from deceptive ones."
Building on the success of the initial lecture, RIES collaborated with the Department of Agricultural Science and Technology for its seventh installment on February 23. The topic, "Swine Production and Management (Newborn-Finisher)," attracted eager participants who wanted to deepen their understanding of sustainable agricultural practices. Mr. Roy C. Limpangog, an esteemed expert from the Department of Animal Science at Visayas State University (DAS-VSU), shared practical insights into optimizing swine management techniques. Mr. Limpangog highlighted the importance of efficient management in ensuring agricultural productivity and food security, remarking, "Innovative approaches in swine management are essential for meeting the demands of a growing population."
The resonance of these webinars extended far beyond regional boundaries, with participants hailing from diverse backgrounds and regions, including from the Luzon and Mindanao islands. Such widespread engagement underscores the significance of RIES's commitment to advancing knowledge dissemination and academic collaboration. By offering these sessions as free webinars, RIES exemplifies its dedication to democratizing access to valuable educational resources, regardless of geographical constraints.
As a vital component of SLSU-Hinunangan's academic ecosystem, RIES is pivotal in driving innovation and intellectual growth. The office continues to catalyze academic excellence through initiatives like the lecture series, facilitating meaningful dialogue and collaboration among scholars nationwide. Moving forward, RIES remains steadfast in its mission to nurture a culture of lifelong learning and knowledge sharing, ensuring that the pursuit of knowledge transcends boundaries and empowers individuals across the Philippines.
