Southern Leyte State U hosts Physics Research Sales and Services courtesy visit
Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) recently hosted a courtesy visit from Physics Research Sales and Services Corporation (PRSS), a registered Energy Services Company (ESCO), on February 6, 2024. The ESCO representatives, led by Engr. Jhon Lloyd C. Lagareño, met with key personnel from the university's Affiliated Renewable Energy Center (AREC) to discuss potential collaborations in harnessing renewable energy sources, particularly solar power.
The main objective of the visit was for the ESCO team to provide insights and expertise in solar installation and conduct an initial assessment of the viability of installing solar panels on various rooftops across the SLSU campus. The AREC team, headed by Engr. Jonelle H. Tablada, presented their current initiatives and future goals in integrating renewable energy solutions into the university's operations.
During the meeting, the ESCO representatives:
• Presented their technical expertise in solar power systems, covering various aspects such as technology options, design considerations, and installation processes.
• Shared case studies and successful projects showcasing the benefits of solar energy adoption in educational institutions.
• Conducted a preliminary assessment of the suitability of campus rooftops for solar panel installation, taking into account factors like size, orientation, shading, and structural integrity.
Engr. Jhon Lloyd C. Lagareño emphasized the company's enthusiasm to partner with SLSU. "We are confident that our expertise in solar energy solutions can significantly contribute to the university's sustainability efforts," they said. "We look forward to working closely with the AREC team to explore the feasibility of implementing a solar power project on campus."
The courtesy visit concluded with both parties expressing their interest in further collaboration. The ESCO team will provide a detailed report outlining their initial assessment and recommendations for a potential solar power project at SLSU.
This initiative aligns with the Philippine government's goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in the country's energy mix. Universities like SLSU play a crucial role in leading the way towards a more sustainable future by adopting clean energy solutions and inspiring future generations to embrace environmental responsibility.
