SLSU Bontoc participates to barangay development program formulation; Pledge technical assistance on livelihood project
SLSU-Bontoc Faculty Researcher Gladys L. Pascual, along with representatives from the private sector and secondary academic institutions, joined the barangay officials of San Ramon, Bontoc, Southern Leyte on October 9, 2023, to collectively come up with 2024 Barangay Development Plan.
Presided by Barangay Captain Hon. Ernesto E. Tacardon, Jr., current issues and concerns affecting inhabitants of Brgy. San Ramon were discussed. Priority areas for improvement and livelihood opportunities also came to light where milkfish pond culture was identified as one of the livelihood opportunities with promising prospects in improving the local economy. Accordingly, Brgy. San Ramon is endowed with brackishwater fishpond units readily available for disposal, with a reasonable budget to support milkfish operations.
Officials, however, acknowledged that they lacked substantial know-how to implement this project effectively. Thus, they look up to SLSU-Bontoc for technical assistance, favorably supported by Ms Pascual. Environmental actions, one of which is the application of trash trap devices to reduce marine litter ending up in San Ramon mangrove ecosystems, were also discussed.
Brgy. San Ramon, Bontoc, Southern Leyte, home to SLSU-Bontoc, is one of the 40 barangays belonging to the municipality of Bontoc, Southern Leyte. Having to represent 4.26 % (1,270) of the total population of Bontoc by a 2020 census, Brgy.
