2,506 Mighty Kingfishers march for the first post-pandemic graduation ceremonies
In its relentless pursuit of academic excellence, Southern Leyte State University honors 2,506 Mighty Kingfishers across all six campuses for its respective commencement exercises.
This is the first graduation ceremonies after the World Health Organization (WHO) officially lifted the Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) for COVID-19 on May 2023.
Out of 2,506 graduates, the six campuses of Southern Leyte State University have produced a total 167 Latin honors—7 Magna Cum Laude and 160 Cum Laude. That is 6.66% of the total number of graduates for the whole University campuses.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Annabelle M. Hufalar is happy by the tremendous success of the graduation ceremonies across all six campuses, saying that it fills her heart with pride to witness the culmination of our students' remarkable journey.
The graduation ceremonies were also graced by high personalities in their respective fields as our commencement speakers: world-renowned scientist and researcher Dr. Don Eliseo L. Prisno III for the Main Campus, President of the Nomeroc Holdings, Inc. Mr. Ian Manuel Mercado for Bontoc Campus, Tingog Party List Representative Hon. Jude A. Acidre for Tomas Oppus, Maasin City Vice Mayor Hon. Maloney Samaco for Maasin City Campus, State Counsel IV of Department of Justice Atty Melvin C. Suarez for San Juan Campus, and 2nd District Representative of Southern Leyte Hon. Christopherson M. Yap for Hinunangan Campus.
University President Dr. Jude A. Duarte also expressed his delight for the success of all the graduates.
"Through your academic achievements, your leadership, and your involvement in various activities, you have demonstrated what a true Mighty Kingfisher is," Dr. Duarte said.
He also challenged all the graduates to make a difference in the world, saying that they are not just mere graduates of the university, but ambassadors of its core values.
Apart from being the first batch to graduate after the pandemic, the Class of 2023 is also the second batch to experience face-to-face graduation since COVID-19 global health crisis.
