Southern Leyte State U bags 1st Platinum Award recognition from IPOPHL

Southern Leyte State University, through its Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO), received its very 1st Platinum Award from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) on March 28, 2023 at Sequoia Hotel, Manila.
This is the highest award accorded by the IPOPHL for the country’s top and high-performing Innovation and Technology Support Offices (ITSO) based on 2022 targets under the ITSO 2.0 Program, a re-engineered version of the previous ITSO program aimed at revitalizing the ITSO network to better cope with the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).
The Platinum Recognition award is given to ITSOs that filed at least seven invention patents and have commercialized or assisted in the commercialization of at least one technology either through licensing or through other modes of commercialization.
As for Southern Leyte State U, it drafted and filed nine invention patents, and for successfully commercializing its Utility Model on Taro Brownies through a licensing agreement with La Caridad Foods in Sogod, Southern Leyte.
Southern Leyte State U also reaped the Gold Award for having drafted and filed nine invention patents, Silver Award for having provided 25 patent research reports, and Bronze Award for having 12 IP Awareness, two Patent Search, and one Patent Drafting.
Vice President for Research, Innovation and Extension Services, Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, and ITSO-SLSU Head, Dr. Angel T. Sabusap, received the award on behalf of the University President, Dr. Jude A. Duarte.
IPOPHL is a government agency mandated to administer and implement state policies to strengthen the country's intellectual property rights.
