2 SHS students shine in science quiz bee hosted by Trinity University of Asia
In an electrifying showdown of the brightest young minds in the nation, Grade 12 senior high school (SHS) students from Southern Leyte State University-Tomas Oppus Senior Laboratory High School went head-to-head against other 23 pairs of SHS students from other schools in the ultimate science quiz bee contest of the year - the iQuizbio 2023, hosted by Trinity University of Asia (TUA).
Joseph Urjalisa finished 7th place and Vee Emmanuel Añora secured 6th place, showcasing their exceptional knowledge and skills in the field of science.
With each school represented by two top students, the competition was fierce as the participants battled it out in three intense rounds of challenging questions covering a wide range of topics in health and human biology, biotechnology, cell and molecular biology, microbiology, current events related to biology, biophysics, and ecology. The contest was a rollercoaster of excitement, with each round containing easy, average, and difficult questions, each with corresponding points per correct answer. The qualifying stage of each round saw schools or students fight tooth and nail to secure their spot in the next round, with only the top-performing schools and students advancing. The Antipolo Institute of Technology emerged victorious, with both their students securing 1st and 2nd place, while Batangas State University took the 3rd place. The winners took home cash prizes worth P3,000, P2,000, and P1,000, respectively. The contest was a resounding success, highlighting the remarkable intellect and talent of the nation's senior high school students, and emphasizing the importance of science education in encouraging young minds to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. It was a day of excitement, competition, and celebration, as science took center stage, and the brightest minds in the nation put their knowledge and skills to the ultimate test.
The iQuizbio 2023 took place on February 28, 2023 and was one of the highlight activities in celebration of TUA's 60th Foundation Day.
