Southern Leyte State U leads new community library, art assistance project inauguration
A new community library has finally launched at Brgy. San Roque, Sogod, Southern Leyte on February 10, 2023.
Through the extension project called Community Library and Art Assistance Project (CLAAP), the successful turnover, acceptance, and inauguration ceremony was led by Southern Leyte State University in partnership with Child Development Center (CDC) of Brgy. San Roque.
CLAAP is a joint extension project of the Institute of Arts and Sciences, the University Library, and the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM) implementing its third phase which focuses on library management, collection development, and capacity building.
This collaboration started in June 2022 to impart innovative teaching-learning strategies to the teacher of CDC in terms of tutorial reading classes, and parent’s assistance in studying habits of their children.
Moreover, the University will assist CDC teachers in redesigning instructional materials through art and craft, and other necessary learning materials like guidebooks, workbooks, and audio-visual learning materials, and provide aide in setting up a community library in terms of the solicitation, collection, organization, and classification of books.
The turnover, acceptance, and inauguration ceremonies involved the signing of the transfer of property by the University President Dr. Jude Duarte, and the Barangay Chairman of San Roque Hon. Reynil Tadtad, to formalize the rights of ownership of the donated books.
