Southern Leyte State U, KOPEC outreach program benefits children typhoon Odette victims

The Southern Leyte State University and the Korea-Philippine Educational and Cultural Exchange Center (KOPEC) launched a community outreach program on October 30, 2022 to support young children whose families were badly impacted by Typhoon Odette.

KOPEC, headed by Dr.Hoon Young Choi, is one of Southern Leyte State U's partners that pledges to support the university’s goals as to uphold social responsibility, public service, and good governance.

The outreach program was designed primarily for children who were provided with clothing and facemasks.

Almost one year since typhoon Odette, the province of Southern Leyte, there are some families in some identified barangay in Sogod town who are still coping up from the havoc caused by the typhoon.

This initiative is in line with one of the sustainable development goals (SDG), particularly SDG 11, where Southern Leyte State U aims to create a sustainable community and to meet everyone's needs in order to attain the development of the entire community and beyond.

The outreach program was spearheaded by Southern Leyte State U's office of the External Linkages External Linkages and International Affairs with Dr. Lilibeth S. Tindugan as the director, through the Center for Foreign Language and Culture (CFLC) with Dr. Dinah F. Catamco being the Head and Kingfisher 2021 Ambassadors, and with the support of Dr. Juanita M. Costillas, the Vice President for Students and Auxiliary Services.
