Tomas Oppus campus students win best papers, best presenter at DABEST conference
Senior Bachelor of Secondary Education students from Southern Leyte State University-Tomas Oppus won 2nd best paper and best presenter during the 2nd National Development Studies, Arts and Humanities, Bussiness and Economics, Education, Science and Engineering, and Technology and Innovation (DABEST) on October 26-28, 2022, held at Eastern Visayas State University, Tacloban City.
Dave Rellanos, Albert Odo, Jhon Peejay Gaviola, Romengil Bucag and Charles Jovita won 2nd place in Best Research with thier paper entitled "Modified Spider Web Method: A Tool for English Language Proficiency Enhancement."
The paper is a developmental evaluative research design that modifies the Spider Web Discussion Method of Alexis Wiggins that which follows a Socratic Seminar Model in the discussion. Such method targets the enhancement of the five macroskills through activities and process that being followed during class discussions.
Rellanos, who presented the said paper, bagged the 2nd best presenter.
Meanwhile, Yhanna Mae Deliman, Earl John Cotayan, Reza Eztas, Jewart Gonzales, and John Albert Canon's "Dayung (Bayanihan): Reflection of the Fishermen Culture" won 3rd best paper.
Such paper was formulated from the researcher's observation that the fishermen in Barangay San Isidro, Tomas Oppus valued the "dayung" cultures helpful during their fishing journey.
The study is being carried out to understand how "dayung" culture affects the fishermen's personality as fishermen in terms of showing its connection to the Filipino value, Bayanihan.
Both research papers were conducted under the advisership of Dr. Erlinda Tibus and Dr. Max Teody Quimilat, respectively.
Ruth Maureen Valmera of Southern Leyte State U-Bontoc Campus presenting their paper on "Damage Assessment and Recovery Potential of Bontoc-Tomas Oppus Mangrove Greenbelt After Super Typhoon Odette"
Under Science and Engineering category, Ruth Maureen Valmera, Mariel Ann Duterte, Rolando Jagonos, Nellyn Aligado, Alieza Del Socorro of Southern Leyte State U-Bontoc Campus also presented their paper on "Damage Assessment and Recovery Potential of Bontoc-Tomas Oppus Mangrove Greenbelt After Super Typhoon Odette."
Valmera ended up being the best presenter under the said category,
