During the flag raising, University President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes did a brief talk, like she always does every flag ceremony, but this time highlighted the importance of embracing differences.
"It is always important to get to know the purpose of why ASEAN was organized years back. This is a call for understanding and unity among the people of different culture, races, and nationalities," Dr. Yepes said.
ASEAN was established on August 8, 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

ASEAN reaffirms its commitment to addressing common challenges and sustaining the momentum of ASEAN’s community-building efforts with a strong sense of togetherness as it celebrates its 55th Founding Anniversary.
