Agriculture Student from Hinunangan Campus bags 2nd place at 4-H Explorer’s Camp 2022
Sophomore Agriculture student Luigie A. Gorme of Southern Leyte State University Hinunangan Campus won 2nd place in the Innovative Technology on Organic Fertilizer Production competition held on July 25-29, 2022 in Allen, Northern Samar.
The said event was part of the several activities of 4-H Explorer’s Camp 2022, an avenue for learning and earning that unleashes the potentials of the youth toward strengthening their capacities. It also provides opportunity for them to learn their roles in agricultural development.
The regional camp was participated in by the 4-H Club delegates coming from 4 provinces of Samar, Northern Samar, Leyte, and Southern Leyte as well as the cities of Ormoc and Tacloban.
The Southern Leyte delegation is headed by the Rural Based Organization Provincial Coordinator, Ms. Cristita Clava of Philippine Association of General Services Officers (PAGSO) Inc.
Among the several events, Mr. Gorme joined the organic fertilizer production by using indigenous materials that should follow the minimum requirements set by Philippine National Standard (PNS) for Organic Soil Amendments.
In an interview, Mr. Gorme expressed his fascination of what he can do as an Agriculture student major in Animal Science that made him join the event.
“It helped me improve my confidence and gain so much experience. I want myself to grow and learn and I think that participating in such activity was a good platform for me to step in and understand more about agriculture which is the backbone of our Philippine economy,” he added.
Mr. Gorme went home with a certificate and a cash prize which were awarded to him during the awarding ceremony.
Meanwhile, Southern Leyte 4-H Clubs bagged the Overall Regional Champion award in the recently-concluded event.
4-H Club Region 8 is a coalition of young farmers and advocates who are members of registered 4-H clubs in Eastern Visayas involved in agriculture programs and livelihood projects.
The theme of this year’s regional camp is “#4HPADAYON | 4-H Club's Participation on Agricultural Development as Youth Agripreneurs for Overall Nation Building.” It aims to bring together young farmers, agvocates (agriculture advocates), and volunteer leaders across Eastern Visayas to gain knowledge on new agricultural technologies, share the 4-H best practices, and showcase their skills and talents.
