Southern Leyte State U orients students, employees on anti-VAWC; holds U-wide webinar
In coordination with the Supreme Student Council (SSC), the Student Welfare Services (SWS) in the office of the Students and Auxiliary Services (SAS) of Southern Leyte State University conducted a university-wide webinar on May 31, 2022 to orient the students and employees on Anti-Violence against Women and their Children (VAWC) Act of 2004.
The orientation aims to empower the participants by educating them on the salient features of the VAWC Law. Furthermore, it seeks to spread awareness of the rights under the law as it will be beneficial for the participants in dealing with life situations and circumstances.
According to the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), the Anti-VAWC Act of 2004 is a Philippine law, officially designated as Republic Act (RA) 9262, that seeks to address the prevalence of violence against women and children committed against their intimate partner or her child of which results is likely to result in physical, sexual, psychological harm or suffering or economic abuse including threats of such acts, battery, assault, coercion, harassment or arbitrary deprivation of liberty.
This initiative is in line with the University’s goal which is to ensure relevant and responsive student formation and development programs and services needed to promote students’ well-being.
