Tomas Oppus Campus inks partnership with MSWD-Malitbog for a School-on-Air program focusing on ST Odette victims

Southern Leyte State University-Tomas Oppus Campus signed a memorandum of agreement with the Municipal Social Work Department (DSWD) of LGU (Local Government Unit) Malitbog for an extension project called "School on the Air - Sa Kahanginan Ikaw ang Bida (SKIB)" for the displaced and victimized families of super typhoon Odette in Malitbog, Southern Leyte.

The SKIB School on the Air is also in partnership with the Department of Development Communication (DDC) in Visayas State University (VSU) with Dr. Christina A. Gabrillo, former DDC Head and station manager of VSU's Development Campus Radio DYDC FM 104.7, as the consultant. 

The project aims to uplift the social capital of Malitbog, lead to recovery of the displaced and victimized families of ST Odette, and help empower them as productive constituents of Malitbog. It aims to provide Family and Community Based Disaster Response Preparedness capacity-building intervention to men, women, boys, and girls victims of ST Odette in Malitbog.

The project will tackle five radio lesson episodes on Kabaskug sa Panghuna-huna (Mental Health), Kabaskug sa Panglawas (Physical Health), Ispirituhanung Kinabuhi (Spiritual Life), Pagpanalipud sa Kinaijahan (Environmental Protection against Storm Surge and Landslide), and Radju Drama (Radio Drama) mentoring household heads, wives, and eldest sons/daughters.

The said activity is anchored on the university’s sixth goal which is implementing responsive extension programs for sustainable development. This is one of the University’s ways to address the needs of the people following the devastation of super typhoon Odette last year.
