Southern Leyte State U garners the 2nd highest number of COPC, gets recognition for program compliance
Southern Leyte State University has once again received a certificate of recognition for its commitment to quality and excellence in higher education as well as for its laudable efforts to comply with policies, standards, and guidelines of the Commission of Higher Education (CHED).
Since 2015, Southern Leyte State U has been issued Certificates of Program Compliance (COPC) for its 29 programs, the second highest number of programs issued with COPC in the region. The highest is Visayas State University (VSU) with 38.
The certificate of recognition was given by Dr. Maximo C. Aljibe, Regional Director of CHEDRO8, to University President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes during the 2022 Gawad CHEDRO8 Awarding Ceremony on May 20, 2022 as part of the celebration of the 2nd National Higher Education Day and CHED’s 28th Founding Anniversary.
Further, on the same event, Southern Leyte State U was recognized for its commendable contribution of the CHED-EVAHEI (Eastern Visayas Association of Higher Education Institutions)-PAPSAS (Philippine Association of Practitioners of Student Affairs and Services) Typhoon Agaton Relief Operations, and exemplifying the Bayanihan spirit and touching the lives of others.
Southern Leyte State U was also recognized for graduates of the Scholarship of Graduate Studies (SGS)-Local Program Graduates of Sending Higher Education Institutions (SHEIs). The University was able to produce five graduates this year.
SGS is a program of CHED that provides graduate student-recipients with scholarship privileges that include tuition cost, stipend, book allowance, and transportation allowance.
On behalf of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC), Dr. Yepes as the Vice President of the organization delivered a message of felicitations to CHED for yet another milestone.
"CHED has been a vital national agency that paved the way for the continuous growth and development of all the 10 SUCs and the other private HEIs here in our home region. For 28 years, CHED has been true to their vision to attain a Philippine higher education system that is equitable and producing locally responsive, innovative, and globally competitive graduates and lifelong learners," Dr. Yepes said.
She further congratulated CHED for a job well done for their consistent efforts in making sure that the students across the region and the country have access to a much better tertiary education even in the midst of the most challenging times in teaching and learning caused by COVID-19 scare.
The 2022 Gawad CHEDRO VIII, attended by the private and public higher education institutions in the region, is in line with the week-long celebration of the 2nd National Higher Education Day and the CHED’s 28th Founding Anniversary.
