SLSU shares Best Practices on International Student Teaching Internships with SSU
Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), through the Global Engagement and Strategic Partnerships Office (GESPO), welcomed delegates from Samar State University (SSU) for a benchmarking activity focused on best practices in managing international student teaching internships.
The delegation was received by the GESPO team, together with Dr. Constantino G. Medilo Jr., Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Christine Alma Mae M. Daguplo, Vice President for Administration and Finance, highlighting SLSU’s commitment to academic collaboration, capacity building, and internationalization.
Led by Dr. Elmer A. Irene, Director of the Office of International Affairs, the SSU delegation aimed to gain insights into SLSU’s institutionalized internationalization practices, particularly in the implementation of international student teaching internship programs. The engagement also strengthened local academic partnerships, reinforcing collaboration in advancing global education initiatives.

The benchmarking activity continued at the SLSU Tomas Oppus Campus, facilitated by Dr. Clemente H. Cobilla, Campus Director. Dr. Leslie Elisa Cobilla, Supervisor of the Student Internship Abroad Program (SIAP), served as the resource speaker. The session provided an in-depth discussion of the program’s implementation, highlighting practical strategies, systems, and experiences in managing international student teaching internships. Key topics included collaboration with partner institutions, student selection and preparation, deployment procedures, internship monitoring, student support mechanisms, and valuable lessons learned from the program’s implementation.

The activity concluded with a productive exchange of ideas and identification of opportunities for future collaboration, further strengthening the partnership between SLSU and SSU.
