Maasin City, August 9–16, 2025 – Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) – Maasin City Campus proudly joined the Pabulhon Agri-Agua Fair & Garden Show, a weeklong celebration of agricultural innovation, local entrepreneurship, and community partnerships. The event served as a platform to highlight the creativity, resilience, and sustainability efforts of Southern Leyte communities.
The SLSU booth featured a diverse range of products from different campuses and partner associations, including:
-
Boneless Marinated Bangus from SLSU Bontoc Campus,
-
Taro products (Cheese Sticks and Cookies) from SLSU-Sogod Campus,
-
Taro Brownies and Karlang Chips, Banana Chips from the Lamdag Association,
-
Tote Bags handcrafted by the Mabini Women Association,
-
Along with other locally produced goods that reflect the ingenuity and resourcefulness of Southern Leyte’s people.
Each product told a story not just about food or craft, but of families, associations, and students working together to turn local resources into sustainable opportunities.
SLSU’s participation in the Pabulhon Fair aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly, SDG 2: Zero Hunger – promoting food security and sustainable agriculture, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth – supporting local livelihoods and entrepreneurship, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – encouraging eco-friendly and sustainable product development, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – strengthening collaboration between the university, community associations, and local government.
Through these efforts, SLSU shows that education is not confined to classrooms—it extends to real-life action that supports farmers, small businesses, and women-led associations.
Behind the booth’s success was the dedication of the faculty and staff of SLSU–Maasin City Campus, who worked hand in hand to make the university’s participation meaningful. Their teamwork reflects SLSU’s mission to blend innovation, sustainability, and community service in everything it does.
The university looks forward to continuing its active role in promoting local products, empowering partner associations, and championing sustainable development initiatives that benefit both the province and the region.
