SLSU-TO Holds In-House Research, Innovation, and Extension Services Review and Evaluation
The Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) – Tomas Oppus Campus successfully conducted its In-House Research, Innovation, and Extension Services (RIES) Review and Evaluation at the SLSU-TO Training Center, gathering faculty researchers and evaluators in a day-long showcase of scholarly work and innovation.
The evaluators were Dr. Mark Galdo, Dr. Joey Caraquil, and Engr. Khorina Aguilar. The in-house event featured a wide array of research proposals and completed studies spanning education, language teaching, technology, and community development. Among the highlighted research proposals were studies on the influence of the mother tongue on oral fluency, artificial intelligence in language teaching, and trends in language pedagogy. Other notable presentations explored communication strategies and English proficiency, oral reading challenges, and the integration of gamification and mobile-assisted language learning. Research also extended beyond language studies, addressing graduate employability, digital inclusion in local governance, and cultural preservation through the documentation of traditional practices such as the Kaputli Festival dance.

In the afternoon session, completed research papers were likewise presented, covering topics such as teachers’ lived experiences in handling non-English subjects, learning styles in diverse classrooms, and the application of seminar-acquired skills in professional practice.
The in-house review serves as a vital platform for academic discourse, encouraging faculty and researchers to refine their work and contribute to the university’s mission of producing knowledge that enhances lives and supports community development.
This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, promoting inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.
