Health at Heart: SLSU Bontoc champions Community Health through donation
In a significant move to support the health and well-being of the Bontoc community, Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) – Bontoc Campus proudly donated 50 boxes of Salbutamol Sulfate (Aero-Vent) to the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Bontoc on November 28, 2024.
This initiative, spearheaded by the campus nurse, Ms. Cherry Ann C. Ceniza, underscores the campus's ongoing commitment to serving the community through meaningful outreach programs.
The donation is expected to significantly enhance the RHU’s capacity to address respiratory health concerns, providing timely and much-needed support to local patients. Dr. Eva C. Padalapat, Municipal Health Officer of LGU Bontoc, expressed their gratitude for the initiative on behalf of the local health team.
Ms. Ceniza, who led the donation drive, underlined the value of teamwork in enhancing community health. "This is more than just a donation; it's a reflection of our campus' mission to actively contribute to the well-being of the people we serve. Through this initiative, we hope to provide relief to those who need it most," she stated
The campus administration expressed its support for this initiative, emphasizing SLSU-Bontoc’s commitment to community development. “We believe that RHU Bontoc is in a better position to effectively use these medications, esp in providing these meds to Bontacanons who need it the most,” said Professor Gladys Pascual, Campus Director.
Under Section 76 of Presidential Decree No. 01145, also known as the "Government Auditing Code of the Philippines," any government property no longer needed by its agency may be transferred, at no cost, to other government agencies.
Despite the donation, Ms. Ceniza has retained an inventory of ten (10) boxes of Salbutamol Nebule, which she believes in her professional assessment will be sufficient to meet the campus’s anticipated needs. “This quantity should cover the campus’s requirements if the need arises,” she said.
Ms. Ceniza was joined by Mr. Rosuell Tablada, the Supply Officer, and a designated member of Disposal committee to ensure a smooth and efficient transaction during the donation event.
This initiative aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly: SDG 3 Good Health and Well-Being. This goal aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
