Southern Leyte State University – Sogod Campus conducted its 1st Quarter In-House Review and Evaluation of Research, Innovation, and Extension Services Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs) on March 11, 2026. The activity brought together faculty researchers, extension implementers, and institutional evaluators to assess proposed initiatives and ensure their alignment with the university’s goals in research excellence, innovation development, and community engagement.
The morning session focused on the review and evaluation of research and innovation proposals, which were assessed by two distinguished external evaluators invited to provide expert insights and objective recommendations.
The external evaluators were Mr. Romeo Jason Padulla, Intellectual Property (IP) Specialist for Region VIII, and Dr. Ramil T. Uy, Provincial Director of the Department of Science and Technology – Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) Southern Leyte.
During the session, faculty researchers presented their proposed research and innovation initiatives, highlighting their objectives, methodologies, and expected contributions to knowledge generation and technological advancement. The evaluators offered constructive feedback to improve the proposals, particularly in terms of research design, innovation potential, and relevance to regional development priorities.

In the afternoon, the activity continued with the presentation and evaluation of Extension Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs). To facilitate a systematic review process, the presenters were divided into two batches, each assessed by a panel composed of three evaluators, including one external evaluator.
For Batch 1, the panel consisted of Dr. Ramil T. Uy as the external evaluator, together with Engr. Jonelle Tablada, Director for Extension Services, and Dr. Angel Sabusap, a faculty member from the Faculty of Industrial and Technology Management and former Director for Extension Services. The panel evaluated the extension proposals based on their relevance to community needs, sustainability, and potential impact.

Meanwhile, Batch 2 was evaluated by Mr. Romeo Jason Padulla as the external evaluator, along with Ms. Adelfa C. Diola, Resident Evaluator and Science Research Specialist of SLSU, and Ms. Fe Alin T. The evaluators provided recommendations to further strengthen the implementation strategies and expected outcomes of the proposed extension programs.
The quarterly in-house review and evaluation serve as an important mechanism for ensuring the quality, relevance, and effectiveness of SLSU’s research, innovation, and extension initiatives. Through the participation of internal and external evaluators, the university continues to strengthen its commitment to producing impactful research and delivering meaningful extension services to partner communities.
The activity also highlights SLSU’s ongoing efforts to foster collaboration with government agencies and experts in the field, ensuring that the university’s programs and projects remain responsive to regional and national development priorities.
