SLSU Mathletes Triumph in DOST STEM Olympiad 2025

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) Civil Engineering students proudly represented the university during the DOST STEM Olympiad 2025 Tertiary Category. The event was held on September 5, 2025, in Tacloban City as part of the RSTW celebration. SLSU participants showcased their strong academic foundation and problem-solving skills. The team demonstrated excellence in applying classroom knowledge to real-world challenges.
Their preparation and teamwork led them to dominate the competition. SLSU won the gold medal in the tertiary level category. This victory highlighted the quality of education and training in the university. It also served as an inspiration for other SLSU students to strive for excellence in STEM.
The winning team was composed of Brian R. Luar (BSCpE 4), Clint Joshua E. Rafalle (BSCpE 3), and Cid Benedict Y. Telin (BSCpE 2), under the guidance of their coach, Engr. Jason T. Bordas. Representing the SLSU Main Campus, the students showcased their wit and mastery of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), besting competitors from various state universities and colleges across Eastern Visayas.
The achievement strengthened SLSU’s reputation as a leader in science and technology education in the region. This success reflects the institution’s commitment to developing future-ready professionals.
The DOST STEM Olympiad 2025 Competition, held at Robinsons Mall in Marasbaras, Tacloban City, was organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VIII, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Leyte and the Department of Education Region VIII, as part of the Regional Science and Technology Week 2025 celebration. The stellar performance of the SLSU team, who were also active members of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) SLSU Student Chapter, brought pride not only to themselves but to the entire university community.
