Southern Leyte State University joins the 15th Asia Youth International Model United Nations Conference 2024
Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) participated in the 15th Asia Youth International Model United Nations (AYIMUN) Conference 2024, sending Ms. Shyn Luege Villaflores as its delegate. This year’s AYIMUN, focused on the theme “Empowering Youth Diplomacy for Global Harmony.” The conference convened over 700 youth delegates from 28 countries, serving as an avenue for cross-cultural understanding and collaborative solutions for pressing global issues.
The Asia Youth International Model United Nations (AYIMUN) is a youth-led conference organized by the International Global Network (IGN) which is an organization engaged in youth development programs.
The event kicked off with an opening ceremony which featured the parade of nations, wherein representatives of the 28 participating countries raised their flag as they walked with pride. The conference also included keynote addresses from the Political Counselor of the Swedish Embassy to Thailand, Mrs. Lina Eidmark; Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to the Kingdom of Thailand, H.E. Mr. Kiptiness Lindsay Kimwole; and the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Indonesia to Thailand, Mr. Faud Adriansyah.
During the conference’s debate, Ms. Villaflores represented the World Health Organization for Australia, where she tackled critical discussions on the impact of air pollution and industrial waste on public health. Her role exemplified the spirit of youth diplomacy, as she presented solutions and engaged in collaborative dialogue with delegates from across the globe.
This staff mobility and participation in AYIMUN highlights the university's commitment to developing globally aware, socially responsible leaders equipped to contribute to meaningful and impactful change.
