Southern Leyte State U, GSU partner to facilitate mango research, sustain production
Southern Leyte State University initiated a collaborative visit to Guimaras State University (GSU) to co-organize a writeshop on mango research and production on February 7-8, 2023.
The two-day activity aims to aid in understanding concepts that will give way to making the project doable, and to creating steps to address gender equality gaps. Further, it looks into developing research collaboration in a holistic manner among experts from state universities and colleges, and research institutions of the national government agencies.
Guimaras mangoes are known for their high demand both in local and global markets that strengthened the tourism of the province, alongside the strong support of the provincial government to mango growers with its provision of mango flower inducers and power sprayers.
The writeshop on mango research project is vital for both Southern Leyte State U and GSU researchers and extensionist to redound to the shared understanding of terms and concepts, which will translate to doable and concrete steps at each stage of the project cycle and ensure that gender equality gaps are addressed.
Participating during the writeshop were The Mango and Tropical Fruits Research Center, BPI-Guimaras National Crop Research Development and Production Support Center, West Visayas State University-College of Agriculture and Forestry, Iloilo Science and Technology University, Provincial Office for Agricultural Services-Guimaras, Guimaras Mango Growers and Producers Development Cooperative, and some GSU faculty members and students.
The mango research project will be funded by Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARD) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
